Tyler Lanfear named Outstanding Senior

Congratulations to Tyler Lanfear of Bellevue, who has been named the College of Arts and Sciences’ 2016 Outstanding Senior in Asian Studies.

Tyler is a Midshipman First Class in Naval ROTC; he has served as Platoon Sergeant for Charlie Platoon and as Battalion Fitness Leader. He is currently the Battalion Executive Officer of the Naval ROTC UI/WSU Battalion. He has earned numerous ribbons and medals for community service, academic excellence, and outstanding service. Tyler was accepted to several schools—and some were on the beach—but he still chose WSU. For a Navy man, that says a lot!

Joshua Garvison named Outstanding Senior

Congratulations to Joshua Garvison of Tumwater, who has been named the College of Arts and Sciences’ 2015 Outstanding Senior in Asian Studies.

Joshua came to WSU several years after first studying in Oregon, moving to Virginia, and making plans to enlist in the US Air Force. However, he decided to return to his home state of Washington and enroll at WSU and its branch of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). “These two decisions were the best I have made in my life,” he said.

Kaitlin McRae named Outstanding Senior

Congratulations to Kaitlin McRae from Spanaway, who has been named the College of Arts and Sciences’ 2014 Outstanding Senior in Asian Studies.

Kaitlin first visited the WSU Pullman campus as a youngster in the Cougar Quest summer camp and, later, as part of the Future Cougars of Color program for high school students. She received a Future Cougars of Color scholarship and began studying civil engineering, but soon found that Asian studies was a better fit for her.

Nikki Brueggeman named Outstanding Senior

Congratulations to Nikki Brueggeman, who has been named the College of Arts and Sciences’ 2013 Outstanding Senior in Asian Studies.

Nikki’s adoptive mother, who is blind, taught her not to let setbacks keep her from doing the things that mattered. Originally from Walla Walla, Washington, Nikki has served as a legislative intern in Washington, D.C., and studied abroad in Osaka, Japan.
